Obituary

SANDRA ANN PREBIL ascended to her heavenly home on October 7, 2020. She was the cherished daughter of Victor J. Prebil and Kathryn Prebil (nee Marinch) (both deceased) and dear sister of Candace Prebil (deceased) (Linda Betzer). Sandy’s longtime life-companion Paulette Zaryczny predeceased her too. Sandy will be dearly missed by her beloved family including her Aunt Shirlee Kausek, her first cousins, Gary Marinch, Karen McCarthy, Joann Maitri, Shellie Morrison and Toni Kamerer, and her many dear friends including Regina Kupecky, Ann Brady, Diane Gammel, Beverly Kozitko, Eileen Murray, Gail Natale, Janice Hocevar, Deborah Gnann, June Gahr, Joan Gattuso, Mary Kay Reinhardt, Barbara Anderson, Barbara Hanafy and Paulette’s brother, Paul Zaryczny. Sandy was an accomplished consumer lawyer having worked for the City of Cleveland Department of Consumer Affairs and at the Cleveland Better Business Bureau, where she was Vice President for 25 years until her retirement. She returned to Douglass & Associates Co., L.P.A. where she was the first associate in 1984, and resumed practicing law and serving as the Compliance Officer and official plant caretaker. Sandy was born the year the Indians last won the World Series and often went to games with her Father, which may account for her devoted attention to the Tribe. Sandy’s joy for life, for all living plants and animals, and a few select humans, was immediately known by all who had the privilege of being in her life. Sandy would want you to know that she expects you to VOTE. A celebration of her amazing life will be held later at Renaissance Unity Church when prudent health practices permit. Please sign the registry at Jakubs & Son Funeral Home or contact Diane Gammel at : diagammel@gmail.com to be notified when the service will be held. Memorial donations in Sandy’s memory may be made to any of Sandy’s favorite charities. The charities she lifted up during her life were Renaissance Unity Church, 4853 Galaxy Parkway, Cleveland, OH 44128, Cleveland Animal Protective League, 1729 Wiley Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44113, Geauga Human Society/Rescue Village, 15463 Chillicothe Road, Novelty, OH 44072 and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, 5001 Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741, or the Democratic candidate of your choice.

My condolences to Sandy's family and very close friends. Sandy went to Marygrove College where I also attended. But I didnt get to really know her until our 5th year when both of us were counselors and got to stay on campus in Madame Cadillac Hall. We bonded during that 5th year and celebrated many meals and nites together as we plugged along in our Masters programs.
I remember at our last reunion ( the 50th and last one!) the rousing speech she gave and how much she wanted to contribute to MG - but wanted it to be in tbe form of trees ( since MG was closing) and she didnt want her contribution lost in the bldg somewhere. So, how fitting that trees are going to be a lasting memorial for her. RIP dear lady!

My condolences to the family and friends of Miss Prebil, as she was known to me. Miss Prebil was my eighth grade math teacher at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Elementary school, and she was awesome! I credit my knowledge in Math and Algebra to her. She had a wonderful rapport with her students, and she is one of those teachers you never forget.

Our paths crossed through BBB, and I loved Sandy's spunk and and the caring and teaching she so easily weaved into the thread of her life. A book she and I both loved is "Snow in August" by Pete Hamill. My prayers go out to Sandy's family and loved ones. And I can resist echoing Sandy's sentiments for the Democratic candidate of your choice.

This great woman who gave me a chance and then let me go when I needed to and then called me to come back to BBB was a mentor and became my family. She taught me something every time I spoke with her. She would always tell me how great I am, when it was her who was great. I will miss her Christmas messages of positive thoughts. She knows I take in the rescued animals. She was brilliant and giving with a hear of gold and didn’t take any slack from anyone. The world won’t be the same. Sending love from all of us.
