Lyn Cooper Tomaszewski, 71, died on May 26th of brain cancer, while in the care of the David Simpson Hospice House of Hospice of the Western Reserve. She was born on November 27th 1948 to Martha and Fred Cooper in Galesburg IL.
Raised in New Philadelphia, OH she earned a BA in psychology from Ohio Northern University, an MA in sociology/demography from Bowling Green State University, and a BSN from CWRU's Bolton School of Nursing. She was a licensed registered nurse and social worker.
She has worked in nonprofit planning and management, communications, teaching, and fund development, with a focus on start-up, new program development, and agencies in transition in the areas of interreligious relations, family planning, hospice care, pediatrics, homelessness and church communications.
Lyn was married to her husband Jim for 27 years with whom she shared a love of wine, ice cream, road trips, The North Coast Men’s Chorus, mystery novels, holiday open houses, the Browns, Cavaliers, Columbus Blue Jackets and especially the Cleveland Indians. In retirement, group road trips to wineries became a welcome form of relaxation.
Lyn was a member of the Church of the Covenant since 1976 serving as a deacon, elder and trustee. Many of her deepest friendships started at this church. She was employed for 7 years as church communications director.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Tomaszewski; her stepchildren, Trina and Jonathan Tomaszewski; her grandchildren, Alexa Tomaszewski and Ethan Briggs, her aunt, Evelyn Schlipf, and her cousin, Patrick Schlipf.
A memorial service and party will be announced when it is appropriate to gather again. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, and to the Church of the Covenant.

Ohhhh….how sad to hear about Lyn's demise. I am broken hearted reading her obituary. I couldn't believe she went home to Our Maker. Lyn was a good friend and I was just thinking about her the past few months. I didn't know she had health issues. Thank you Lyn for the good memory I had with you while I worked under your supervision. I will always cherish your friendship and will pray that you will forever enjoy the eternal peace you so deserve in God's Kingdom.

I've known Jim better than Lyn, sinceit's he who keeps my computer trudging along, but it's been clear that Lyn was the light of Jim's life. And when I finally had the honor of meetng her, and their wide and welcoming holiday open house, I could well see why. She was a warm and welcoming person, embracing everyone as part of her larger family. My deepest sympathy to all.
